Our Summer's End Get Away

Keith and I decided about a week before Labor Day weekend it would be nice to get away for a couple of days to northern Michigan.  It actually worked out really well----I booked a room for a couple of nights at a really low rate!  Even better---the weather was perfect, in the lower 70's, low humidity and sunny!

On our way up we stopped in Frankenmuth and had lunch at Zehnder's.  Being as it was a Thursday, it wasn't busy and we were seated and served quickly.

This is the view from the left of the balcony from our hotel room in the evening before we went to dinner.  We were on the third floor and looking directly from the room all we could see is water.  I kept the doorwall leading to the balcony open over night.  I loved hearing the lake and having the fresh air come in.

We woke up to this beautiful sunrise the next morning.
Mackinac Bridge
After the ferry docked the captain gave Erich a few minutes to stand at the helm.
Time to ride our bikes around the island.  Ready, set, go!
We stopped a few times along the way.
Erich loved skipping stones and Keith built a couple of 'Stonehenge' sculptures with the rocks.

We went to lunch at Goodfellow's.
After lunch we rode our bikes back to the Grand Hotel.
A lovely sitting area in the Grand Hotel.
One of my all-time favorite movies was filmed at the Grand Hotel---'Somewhere In Time'.
Erich found the game room.
There's so many lovely homes and cottages on the island.
Went went half way around the island again and then rode back the docking area.

There's too much to see and do in one day----that just gives us a good reason to return again to one of the most beautiful places in Michigan.   September is half over already.  I'm hoping that time will slow down a bit.  It's been so nice lately, well it did rain yesterday.  I'm not complaining, we needed it.  I'm still picking tomatoes and my herbs are still healthy and I'm thinking about planting some mums.  I'll be enjoying this pleasant weather 'til the bitter end.............
