Greenfield Village | Fall Flavor Weekends
Sunday Keith, Erich and I went to Greenfield Village for the Fall Flavor Weekends after church service. The weather was absolutely wonderful. Firestone Farm had farmers harvesting using historic farm implements. Seven homes at the village had cooking demonstrations and free recipe cards. There are historic recipes available at the henry ford . org as well.
Firestone Farm, 1885
The ladies at the Firestone Farmhouse were cleaning the kitchen after preparing boiled dinner, German potato salad, squash biscuits, fried green tomatoes and pumpkin bread.
We went to the Eagle Tavern for dinner where fresh corn muffins with blueberry jam and corn relish is served prior to dinner. Keith had a chicken pie and I had a pork chop with walnut ketchup and steamed garden-fresh carrots. Erich had the chicken tenders. Everything was delicious! I'm inspired to make the corn relish.
Our next visit to the village will be for Hallowe'en Nights. It is one of my favorite events and I'm really looking forward to going. Keith and I have an agreement that we will continue going----even when Erich decides he's too "cool" to hang out with his parents!
It's hard to believe that September is almost over. I'm hoping that we will have some nice weather in October. I would like to go to the apple orchard again with Stephenie and pick up some more Macintosh apples to make apple crisp. There are a few more car shows coming up and hopefully we will be able to make a trip to the cider mill during the peak of the fabulous autumn color season.
