Salute to America | Independence Day Weekend

1st Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corps
On Friday July 3, 2015 Keith, Erich and I met our long-time friend Bill, his mother Sharon and Bill's girlfriend Coleen at Greenfield Village for the 23rd Salute to America.  What a perfect evening it was to sit on the gorgeous grounds of Walnut Grove and hear wonderful  music performed by the 1st Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corps, United States Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Walnut Grove was packed full of the nicest, patriotic people.
Keith and Bill have known each other since kindergarten, and Bill was Keith's best man.  I thought it was neat to take a picture of Erich taking a picture of the boys.
I took this picture of the boys.

We had a pretty clear view of the orchestra stage unfortunately the fireworks were somewhat obstructed by the trees.  We still enjoyed them and the DSO was fantastic as always!
Saturday evening Erich's friend Justin invited Erich over for a bonfire.  Keith and I went for a cruise in the Packard along Jefferson Ave. in New Baltimore and Algonac.  There were plenty of fireworks going off along the way.   Justin's parents invited us to come down to the bonfire while we were on the road---so we turned around and headed back to Justin's house and enjoyed watching the fireworks in the neighborhood while the kids made S'mores.
For dinner we had petite sirloin steak with sauteed mushrooms and onions, shrimp with cocktail sauce, and an arugula, watermelon, feta salad, and roasted potatoes with fresh chives from my herb planter.  It seems like everything tastes better when dining alfresco on a warm summer evening.
After dinner we went cruising around Grosse Pointe.  This jewelry store on Mack Ave. was once a Packard showroom and dealer.
Erich and I discovered this service station on Mack Ave. when we went to an estate sale recently.
The Packard looks so cool next to the service station at the corner of Kercheval  Ave. and Cadieux.
We cruised along Lakeshore Drive / Jefferson Ave. on the way home.  It was such a lovely evening.

I hope everyone was able to spend some time to celebrate our great nation's Independence over the July 4th weekend with family and friends.

I'm so grateful for our service men and women who defend our freedom and I pray that God will  bless and keep them in His care.  And I pray that the Lord will continue to bless America through His grace and mercy.
